Antique Auto Club
of Cape Canaveral

  Founded 1964

Club history

It all started when four antique automobile enthusiasts found themselves in the Cape Canaveral area with no club devoted to their interest. So, in 1964, they formed a new club which they called the Antique Automobile Club of Cape Canaveral. The first official club event was a picnic which was attended by 25 like souls. Membership grew and in 1965 the organization was formalized by filing a formal charter with the state of Florida. Typical club events of the time included parades, tours, car shows, and picnics. The official newsletter, "The Nuts and Bolts", was started and it continues as our regular monthly newsletter.

Model A Club:  In 1965, members who owned Model A Fords petitioned the Model A Ford Club of America for a charter, and the Moonport Chapter was born. It remained active for another 40 years. In 1966, Vice President Huber H. Humphrey was granted an honorary membership which he graciously accepted and sent us a picture of himself seated in his 1931 Model A.

AACA Affiliation:  In 1984, the year of our 20th anniversary, we became affiliated with the Antique Automobile Club of America as the Cape Canaveral Region. By joining the prestigious AACA family, our members were able to participate in the many AACA national meets and tours that take place each year. Many of our members have won national honors for their rolling works of engineering art.

National Meets:  1991 was the year we hosted the AACA National Fall Meet in Melbourne. This proved to be so successful that we hosted the AACA National Winter Meet again in 1994. Continuing the tradition, we proudly hosted the 2000 Fall meet in Cape Canaveral and the 2004 Winter Meet in Melbourne . 2008 was the year we hosted The Sunshine Dual, a combined event featuring the 2008 AACA Grand National Meet and the Southeast Division 2008 National Winter Meet. Our next national show took place in Melbourne when we hosted the 2012 AACA National Winter Meet.  Ten years later, in February 2022, the Club hosted the 2022 AACA Winter Nationals at the American Muscle Car Museum in Melbourne.
